City Sounds, the Des Moines public piano project, installed two painted pianos in Des Moines on Tuesday of this week. One was placed at the Central Library in Downtown Des Moines, while the other was installed at East Fourth Street and Grand Avenue in the East Village. The pianos were both painted by local artists, and they will be covered by tarps at night and during severe weather. The public pianos will be available for use from May until October, and then they will be stored for the winter each year. To celebrate the pianos installations, jazz singer Max Wellman and Holly Figueroa (of Holly and the Night Owls) will perform a free show on the Central Library piano on Saturday at 5 p.m., while singer/songwriter Max Jury and Heather Hansen (of Pony Bucket) will do the same at 6 p.m. at the East Village location. Both shows are open to the public.

The inaugural Waukeye Music Festival will take place at Hawkeye Antique Acres in Waukee on Saturday. The event will be headlined by The Hooten Hallers. You can check out Examiner's preview of the event here.
