Yes, it seems unreal to many ABC fans. However, “Katie” is going to be renewed for a second season. This show is being renewed even though they have been seeing ratings of 1.0 of their targeted audience, women between the ages of 18 and 50 years of age. Why is the show being renewed?
Could it be because ABC is hoping that it will do better in its second season? Could it be that ABC hates to throw away all that good money they spent on Katie Couric’s salary, the publicity behind the show and everything else associated with the show? Could it be that they really had no choice since they have a two year agreement to air the show and would have to pay a lot of the same costs even if they didn’t air it? Could it be that ABC is hoping that now that “One Life To Live” and “All My Children” will soon air on the Internet, fans will give up their grievances against ABC and begin watching their television shows, again?
Nobody knows for certain what ABC reasons are. However, the show has been renewed. ABC is also bragging that the show is doing well. It is stating that it is currently holding a steady number six rating in its eighteen markets. However, most viewers will tell you that they are not fans of the show. In fact, most fans will tell you overall they are just plain tired of talk shows in general. They are ready to begin watching scripted television, again.
Talk shows, games shows and realty shows have begun to bore many television viewers. Most viewers will tell you that they no longer have time for many of these in their lives any more. Games shows are no fun because other people are winning the prizes. People are bored watching the same celebrities appear on the same shows. Some of the fluff pieces are entertaining. However, the diets and the exercise segments have been repeated time and time, again. Finally, reality shows are only nice in small doses. At least, this is how some viewers feel.
