According to the Daily Mail on Feb. 14, Katie Couric is getting 911 calls. That, in itself, may not be too unusual as mistakes like this happen all the time. However, she’s getting them from a phone line that is listed in the name of her late husband Jay Monahan.
The calls always come in at 2 a.m. on Tuesday mornings. It could be the work of a prankster or simply a fault with the line.
The police are investigating and have been to Katie Couric’s home. There have been 10 calls from the line so far.
The phone is actually the landline for her New York apartment. It’s still registered in the name of Jay Monahan. Jay Monahan passed away from colon cancer in 1998. She never changed the listing.
That phone line is calling 911 which sends a patrol car to her apartment. Couric would then get an automatic call back from a 911 operator.
Could it be a “swat-type” prank? It’s possible. Most of the calls have been placed when she’s not there.
The calls are distressing to Couric, causing her to lose sleep. “I got no sleep, so I am just oversharing,” she recently told her "Katie" show audience. The real fear is that if this keeps up, the police may no longer respond if and when a real emergency occurs.
Katie Couric has had several relationships since the death of Monahan, but she is still single. She lives at home with her two daughters and the family dogs.
