Katie Couric was accused by the National Enquirer on Feb. 19, 2013, of being a cougar hunting for a new cub -- but is she thinking about dating celebrity athletes and younger men right now because her current (older) boyfriend is a dud? Or is the tabloid simply making rumors up to sell more grocery store news stand publications at the expense of her current relationship?
Couric is presently dating a 50 year old banker named John Molner. She is 56 years old. According to the celeb gossip source, her friends and family are all seriously concerned that her obsession with scoring with younger men is ruining her present relationship. They even went so far as to suggest that she's trying right now to date Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco.
The problem with their allegation (aside from being disturbing to Joe Flacco's wife Dana Grady) is that it takes the focus off her career as a professional and puts her name in the headlines in such a way that implies she is somehow deviant. While Flacco's name is in the spotlight for winning the Super Bowl and being featured in headline news on reputable media sources like USA Today for his professionalism, she's being talked about in a negative way for something intensely personal.
Because the allegations she's shopping the dating circuit for a new boy toy like the celebrity athlete is likely to be hurtful to her current beau, the tabloid's claims seem less like journalism and more like a personal attack against the new talk show star. And that seems odd -- especially since even AARP seems to think older women preferring to date younger men is something that is becoming increasingly socially acceptable.
