The New York Daily News reports on Saturday that Katie Couric married John Molner in an intimate East Hampton ceremony with about 50 family members and friends. The couple had been engaged since Sept. 2013, after two years of dating. The wedding took place in the backyard of the Couric's summer home.
People magazine reported that the 57-year-old journalist tied the knot with her banker fiancé John Molner, 51, in a small ceremony. Couric said, “We wanted to keep the wedding just very low-key. This is not my first rodeo so I didn't want to go too crazy and neither did John.”
The ceremony was a family affair with Molner’s daughter and son, Allie and Henry, performing readings as did Couric's daughters, Ellie, 22, and Carrie, 18. The groom's nieces and nephews were ring bearers and flower girls, and the bride’s youngest daughter also sang for the couple.
The reception decorations complimented Couric's garden perfectly with elaborate floral centerpieces that included garden roses, peonies, dahlias, and hydrangeas, among other flowers, according to Us Magazine. Hank Lane provided the music, and strawberry lemon cake was served for dessert which was catered by Topping Rose House of Bridgehampton, New York.
The new bride admitted she has been so busy over the past few months that the groom did most of the planning. He even helped her with the selection of her dress which was an ivory beaded and embroidered Chantilly lace halter gown by Carmen Marc Valvo. Couric has been embarking on her new role as a Yahoo! News Global Anchor and releasing a documentary about obesity that left her little time to plan the wedding.
Shortly after saying "I do," the bride tweeted, "So excited to make my debut as Mrs. John Molner!" This is the second marriage for both the bride and groom. Couric’s first husband, Jay Monahan, died of colon cancer in 1998. Molner divorced his first wife, Jane.
The Yahoo News Global Anchor celebrated her bachelorette party with 45 friends in New York City earlier this week. The group dined at Le Midi near Union Square and sang at the Karaoke Cave located downstairs. Couric was surprised by a gospel choir performance and enjoyed adorable candy M&Ms customized with her and Molner's faces on them. Molner did a bar crawl for his bachelor party in New York months before.
Congratulations, Katie and John!
