Three big announcements were made late last week involving dates for Kathy Mattea, King Buzzo, and Gross Domestic Product. Here are the details.
Country and bluegrass singer Kathy Mattea will play Terrible's Lakeside Casino in Osceola on Saturday, March 22 at 8 p.m. Mattea has won three Academy of Country Music Awards, three Country Music Association Awards, and two Grammy Awards during her 30-plus years in music. Mattea has four #1 Country singles and a #1 Bluegrass album to her credit, as well. Tickets to see the West Virginia native in concert range from $10 to $30 and can be purchased online through Red Truck Tickets. Guitarist Roger "Buzz" Osborne, also known as King Buzzo, will play an acoustic show at Vaudeville Mews on Tuesday, March 4 at 9 p.m. Osbourne is a founding member of the Melvins, Fantômas, and Venomous Concept. He was also the bassist for Kurt Cobain's first band, Fecal Matter. During his acoustic tour, Osbourne will be selling a limited edition 10" entitled “This Machine Kills Artists”. Tickets to the show are $12 in advance and $14 at the door. Monokini will be opening the 21-and-over event.
The Des Moines Music Coalition announced the date for the 2014 Gross Domestic Product on Valentine's Day. The 9th annual showcase of Iowa bands will take place on Saturday, April 12 and will move to Des Moines' East Village. The acts for the mini music festival will be announced in the coming weeks. The DMMC is accepting band submissions until February 23.
