Kathy Bates nearing deal for 'American Horror Story'

Michael Ausiello at TVLine reported today that Kathy Bates is nearing a deal to join the cast of “American Horror Story” for its’ third season. She recently captivated audiences with her series “Harry’s Law” and appearances on “the Office.” Bates is not unfamiliar with horror, having played the title character in Stephen King’s “Dolores Claiborne.”

Her exact role on the show has yet to be revealed, but it is known her character will start as best friends with series star Jessica Lange. Creator Ryan Murphy previously labeled Lange’s part in the next season a, “glamour cat leading lady.” Jessica earned critical acclaim for the much grittier role of Sister Jude in the just concluded second season.

Bates will also join a former cast mate from her “Six Feet Under” days on “American Horror Story”. Frances Conroy will be returning in some capacity to the show next fall. Conroy starred in the first season as Moira O’Hara, but her role of the Angel of Death in “American Horror Story: Asylum” was limited.
