Kathy Bates faces off with Jessica Lange in "American Horror Story" for season 3, reports Yahoo! News on Feb. 28. Bates, 64, and Lange, 63, play friends who turn into arch enemies.
The season finale for "American Horror Story: Asylum" brought in 2.3 million viewers, reports Entertainment Weekly. That was 28 percent down from season one's "American Horror Story: Murder House" finale. However, the horror series, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, was strong enough to be picked up for a third season.
As before, only some of the original actors remain as the theme of the show, and the characters, change each season. Jessica Lange is arguably the strongest actor. She won a Golden Globe, an Emmy and a SAG award for her performance in season one.
Says Murphy on the addition of Bates, "Her [character] is a bad, bad woman! Five times worse than [her] 'Misery' character - which is why she liked it." Both Bates and Lange have won numerous awards, including Academy Awards. Pairing two stellar actresses together should make for good entertainment and good ratings for the show.
Kathy Bates continues to stay busy since she began her acting career in the early 70s. One of her more recent roles was as character Jo Bennett, a CEO of Sabre in the comedy TV show "The Office."
