Kathleen Cooney takes on new position at U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center

Moving from her role as interim medical director, Kathleen Cooney, M.D. is taking on the newly created position of deputy director for clinical services at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. The University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) made the announcement on Friday.

Cooney is now tasked with administering the clinical activities that take place within the numerous cancer care facilities and programs found across the university. In the UMHS news release from January 18, Cooney is quoted in part as saying, “Patients with cancer are seen at many locations throughout our institution and we need to make sure our patients receive the best treatment and care regardless of where we’re seeing them.” In the same release, the center’s director, Max S. Wicha, says that Cooney is “eminently qualified to assume this expanded role.”
