Anthony Weiner's "Weinergate" is still the biggest Twitter direct message FUBAR ever, but on Monday night, Arizona Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett came close. He spent the evening tweeting offers to Katherine Webb, also known as Miss Alabama.
It didn't matter to Dockett, 31, that Webb, 23, might be a little busy watching the BCS Championship game on Monday night. After all her boyfriend is Alabama QB A.J. McCarron, 22 (Alabama crushed Notre Dame 42-14).
Docket tweeted her (the tweets have since been deleted):
@_KatherineWebb aye u going to king of diamonds Monday after game?
Aye @_KatherineWebb hit me (XXX) XXX-XXXX when game over, lets go to wing stop then King of diamond,
Moments later Dockett tweeted:
(Expletive) that was suppose to be DM!
And does anyone really think a direct message to Webb would have been better, considering her boyfriend was playing in the BCS Championship game?
ESPN's camera's spent a lot of time on Webb, which is understandable (slideshow from Twitter above). Dockett, therefore, wasn't the only Twitter user to want to associate with Webb. Her Twitter account followers exploded during and after the game, rising from 2,300 to more than 109,000 by early Tuesday morning.
McCarron wrote back to Dockett, despite Dockett's tweets being deleted. He tweeted:
u better worry ab being in them playoffs, then going to king of diamonds homie.. #betterkeepdreaming like the rest of these dudes.
Dockett got a more encouraging tweet from Wing Stop's official Twitter feed, which invited him to one of its restaurants for a night of wings.
