On Wednesday, October 2, Katherine Jackson lost her lawsuit against AEG for the wrongful death of her son King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The jury ruled that the concert promoter was not responsible for Jackson’s death.
The jury decided that AEG was responsible for hiring Conrad Murray as Jackson’s physician however, they also found that Murray wasn’t unfit in the position. Katherine Jackson, 83 had been suing the concert promoter claiming that the executives for the company had been negligent when they hired Murray.
Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the overdose that killed Michael Jackson. AEG has maintained from the beginning that Jackson had hid his addiction from everyone. They also claim that their contract was never fully executed and they couldn’t have predicted that Murray was any danger to Michael Jackson.
The jury deliberated for 17 hours before rendering a decision. The decision was not required to be unanimous as it was a civil trial and not a criminal one.
Conrad Murray is expected to be released from jail on October 28. He will only have served two of the sentenced four years.
