Katherine Heigl is Stephanie Plum in 'One For the Money' AP
It was announced on Monday that Katherine Heigl has signed on to star as Stephanie Plum in 'One For the Money' based upon the novel by Janet Evanovich of the same name.
Variety reports that the movie is being made by Columbia Pictures and Lakeshore Entertainment.
Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing "One for the Money" with Wendy Finerman ("The Devil Wears Prada").
Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith penned the screenplay, and Liz Brixius has been brought onboard to do a polish.
There are currently 15 books in the series and they follow Stephanie Plum as a lingerie buyer turned bounty hunter. The Amazon.com review of the book says :
"Stephanie Plum is so smart, so honest, and so funny that her narrative charm could drive a documentary on termites. But this tough gal from New Jersey, an unemployed discount lingerie buyer, has a much more interesting story to tell: She has to say that her Miata has been repossessed and that she's so poor at the moment that she just drank her last bottle of beer for breakfast. She has to say that her only chance out of her present rut is her repugnant cousin Vinnie and his bail-bond business. She has to say that she blackmailed Vinnie into giving her a bail-bond recovery job worth $10,000 (for a murder suspect), even though she doesn't own a gun and has never apprehended a person in her life. And she has to say that the guy she has to get, Joe Morelli, is the same creep who charmed away her teenage virginity behind the pastry case in the Trenton bakery where she worked after school."
I have read the books and I can totally see Katherine Heigl playing the role of Stephanie Plum and I am excited to see who else gets cast in the movie.

I think that SANDRA BULLOCK WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER FOR THE PART OF STEPHANIE. I HAVE READ ALL THE BOOKS. CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE.

I have been so excited about the movie, and then the cast was revealed. I just cannot picture any of them in the parts. Have never liked Heigel in anything. So, I have lost all interest in the movie, but still love the books.
I would love to see it turned into a sitcom. I would love to watch them everyweek. Yes, I am that addicted.

I am absolutely amazed at how many people envisioned Sandra Bullock to be Stephanie! I thought of her years ago with the first Stephanie Plum novel came out. I am very disappointed that so many other fans agree and she STILL isn't being cast. I don't think Katherine will be as perfect for the role, she was terrible in "Killers."
I agree that Sandra Bullock should have been Stephanie. Queen Latifah as Lula and Betty White as Grandma. Vin Diesel as Ranger and Tom Cruise as Joe.
Sandra Bullock would have been GREAT as Stephanie but I am hoping Katherine can do a good job. I think Ranger needed to be someone real hot looking and cool like "The Rock". Morelli would have been good played by someone like the guy in "Limitless". Just saw it tonight and I am in heat.
Unfortunately, as Grandma Mazur the only person I can picture who would have been perfect is gone. Estelle Getty would have been great. Oh well, we'll see what it's like in June.
oh hoorah... I love those books and thought it would be a great idea to make into a movie.. not sure about the katherine heigl choice.. gonna have to wait and see. :)

Janet Evanovich's books are so popular, and so is Katherine Heigl. It is bound to be a big. I'll bet we're in for more than one of these movies!
More importantly, who is going to play Joe Morelli? As someone who reads these books as soon as they're released, that's more important to me.

I agree, the male parts are the ones I was concerned about....... I was hoping Dwight Johnson was going to be Ranger. Think Bullock would have been a better choice for Stephanie too. Hadn't thought about Joe or Lola.

I have read the books and love them. The problem is you get a picture of the characters in your mind and sometimes that doesn't gel with the casting choices. I too think Sandra Bullock would've been the perfect choice but can live with their choice. I think Dwayne Johnson would have been a great Ranger but do like Daniel in Rescue Me. Think Sherry was a great choice for Lula. The one I think they missed on was Joe Morelli.
Love those books. Wondered when they would make a movie from them. Always wanted to know who they would cast. I don't thing Heigi is right for Stephanie Plum. Not edgy enough. Maybe she's a better actor than I give her credit for.
I think Amanda Peet should have been cast as Stephanie. It's funny to see how many of us have an idea in our own head about what the characters should look like. Should have picked an unknown Cuban-American for Ranger, and I don't picture Morelli with real curly hair, just a little wave. I just hope the movie is true to the book or it won't go over.
no way she can never pull this part off I have read ever book she has written on stephanie plum and I think marisa tomei would be able to pull this part off much better hope they made better choices for the guys

They have to seriously ugly Katherine Heigl up to play Stephanie Plum. And she needs to gain a whole lot of weight and become a hard-ass. Heigl's sugary sweet and a super-feminine kind of pretty - I do hope there's a major transformation because it won't work if she's a 28 Dresses or Knocked Up kinda gal.
I'm sort of mixed on this one. Katherine Heigl doesn't quite fit my image of Stephanie, but then I'm not quite sure who would.

Sandra Bullock I could see, but she is a bit too old since Stephanie is 27 being in her 40s is a bit of a stretch. I always thought Kate Beckensale would be great....but Katherine Heigl is too sugary sweet to play Stephanie.
I'm not sure about Heigl but I always thought Sandra Bullock! Casting Morelli and Ranger will be key. I've always thought The Rock could play Ranger.

Heigl is totally wrong for the part. Sandra Bullock would be perfect, but a bit too old for the character. I think Lake Bell (played Tipper in "What Happens In Vegas" would be awesome in this role. I can definitely picture her as Stephanie. Not sure for Morelli, but Ranger should be played by Oded Fehr (sp?). That's who I always picture anyway!
