According to an email dated Aug. 16 from a source at “The Young and the Restless," on the Monday, Aug. 19, episode of "Y&R" Murphy returns to sad news of Katherine's death, weaving a wonderful story of Katherine's final hurrah. Katherine knew in April that her brain tumor was not benign. Instead of sitting back and waiting to die, Katherine and Murphy embarked on a journey around the world, visiting all the places on Katherine's "bucket list."
What did the great Katherine Chancellor do with the final days of a life filled with great wealth and privilege, but also great challenges and sorrow? Katherine rode the Colossus in Germany, danced the Flamenco in Barcelona and zip lined over the “Eye of the Jaguar” in Peru.
On the last leg of their journey, Katherine and Murphy went to Hong Kong where they had dinner with her son Tucker. Afterwards Murph and Kay went to the finest karaoke bar in Macau and Katherine sang all her favorite songs. Murphy tells those gathered at the Chancellor mansion that Katherine received a standing ovation. Upon returning to their hotel room Katherine lay down, closed her eyes and died with a smile in her sleep that night.
In the end, the writers of “The Young and the Restless” wove an exit story for Katherine Chancellor that was in character with the formidable “Grande Dame” of Genoa City. The episode of “The Young and the Restless” airing on Monday, Aug. 19 is just the beginning of how Katherine Chancellor’s death will affect each and every character and storyline on “The Young and the Restless,” perhaps for years to come.
