Kate Winslet, who once weighed 200 pounds and abused diet pills and laxatives to lose weight, shows off her womanly curves in elegant new ads for St. John's clothing.
"Obviously I am not a model, I don't have a model's body," Winslet says in the newly released video from St. John's fall 2011 ad campaign.
"I have a real shape. And that just means a lot to me to be able to wear clothes that do embody that message of strength and power and femininity in a real shape [like St. John's]."
Portion Control & Exercise DVD Workouts
The 5'6" Winslet, who has battled weight issues all her life, says she was called "blubber" by classmates between ages 8-11, and at 15 weighed 200 pounds.
Now fitter and healthier than ever, Kate is lean and toned, thanks to portion control and regular exercise.
The British beauty, who doesn't have a personal trainer, works out to exercise videos at home.
"I just do my own stuff at home with the help of DVDs. A little bit of Pilates," she says. "And just recently I started running, but I’m not very good."
She adds: "I have cellulite, I don't go to the gym because I don't have time but I do Pilates work out DVDs for 20 minutes or more everyday at home."
Abused Laxatives & Diet Pills as a Teen
In 2009, Kate revealed that as an adolescent, she abused laxatives, starved herself and became addicted to diet pills to lose weight.
"I was uncomfortable and self-conscious," said Winslet, who subsisted on a diet of apples, raw carrots and black coffee for months as a teen.
Now the divorced mother of daughter Mia, 10, and son. Joe, 7, Kate wants to encourage a healthy lifestyle by example.
"The highest compliment I could ever receive about my kids - and I can say that this does happen frequently - is when the in-flight crew say to me, ‘Your children are wonderful. They are so well-behaved,' " she says.
"Every time I am told that, I could weep.”
