Making the cover of Sports Illustrated is a cornerstone in the world of modelling. The notoriety and exposure of being the cover girl, can lead to additional career opportunities. Sports Illustrated's annual swimsuit edition is quite a celebrated highlight.
To grace the cover page once, is a great accomplishment, back-to-back covers in consecutive years is quite a feat. It is especially noteworthy if a cover model is fortunate enough to have a solo cover appearance. Kate Upton is this year's cover girl for the second year in a row, announced on Feb. 8, 2013.
Detroit News writes, "Kate Upton, who has made the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for the second straight year. SI confirmed the news on its website late Friday.
The cover photo, which you might have noticed above, features Upton wears a parka and bikini bottom. The headline: "Kate Upton goes Polar Bare," alludes to the fact her photo shoot took place in Antarctica."
The first U.S.Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover premiered in 1965. Sue Peterson, wore a plain black, one-piece bathing suit. A far cry from the current cover, a fur-trimmed jacket over a topless Upton.
