Kate Upton lands 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover (Photos)

For the second year in a row, 20-year-old model Kate Upton will be gracing the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, marking her third appearance in the magazine's iconic Swimsuit edition. In addition to celebrating her second appearance, the upcoming issue will also mark the magazine's 50th anniversary when it arrives on store shelves next Tuesday.

For the upcoming anniversary issue, 17 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models traveled around the world for an international photo shoot that's never been done before in the magazine. The models traveled all seven continents for their exotic photo shoots, while Upton had the privilege (or not, according to her frostbite tales) of heading to Antarctica for her set. Shot over a 10 day period in December, the Florida native braved the arctic temperatures for a stunning photo shoot, despite the consequences to her health upon returning home.

"It was freezing. I had frostbite when I came back. I was worried about my body,” she said in an appearance on the "Today" show. “My body was shutting down because it was working so hard to keep me warm."

The 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue arrives on newsstands this Tuesday.
