Kate Middleton’s heel got stuck in a grate at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on a rainy day in Hampshire. The very high heel of her black pump caught and would not pull free, reports Us magazine on Sunday, March 17. No one was hurt, and onlookers – including Prince William – smiled. The incident was more funny that serious.
The Duchess of Cambridge seemed to chuckle, herself. She held tightly to Prince William’s hand as she bent to free the offending footwear. Kate’s heel that became stuck was, in fact, higher than her usual favorite shoes. Perhaps she will soon follow Kim Kardashian’s recent lead into trading in her stilettoes for flat sandals. But then, readers may remember that Victoria Beckham, whose husband is a friend of Prince William, stayed with her stylish, sky-scraping shoes almost all the way to the end of her recent pregnancy.
How difficult it must be for celebrities to have their every wardrobe choice scrutinized. Imagine having each trip out photographed. Not only was Kate’s stuck heel mishap recorded, but some writers noticed that the green Emilia Wickstead dress coat the Duchess of Cambridge wore was the same coat she had on last year at the same parade.
Kate Middleton had no problem carrying on with her job, which was to hand out the traditional shamrock sprigs. Prince William, in a brightly-colored uniform, had a ceremonial role in the regiment of Irish Guards being honored on St. Patrick’s Day.
Neither the rain nor the mishap dampened Duchess Catherine’s spirits. It was a good day for a parade.
