A recent article by TV guide stated Kate Gosselin from TLC’s ‘Kate Plus 8’ is making a reported $250,000 per episode. Kate Gosselin does have 8 hungry mouths to feed, but is $250,000 per episode a bit excessive for a reality TV show.
While there is no question reality TV is much cheaper to generate, and has become more and more popular, actors such as Patrick Dempsey ‘Grey's Anatomy’ are still earning $250,000 per episode and Hugh Laurie ‘House’ is making a reported $400,000+. While reality TV stars such as Kate Gosselin make $250,000 per episode to go on trips with her children and the cast members of ‘Jersey Shore’ making $30,000 per episode to go to clubs and hook-up in hot-tubs.
In a statement made by TV Guide, “The broadcast networks have been in a cost-cutting mode since ad revenues were hard-hit by the recession. While the ad market is recovering, they are also coping with a changing long-term financial picture as DVR playback and online viewing have greatly diminished the ratings on the second network run of shows, once the source of windfall profits.”
