Kate Middleton always dazzles. It's her smile. She can light up a room, just like Mary Tyler Moore. But in her most recent quest for looking her best on Feb. 12, Duchess Catherine wore the Queen's jewels. And yes, she looked splendid.
According to Us magazine via MSN Wonderwall, the occasion happened to also coincide with Kate's first pubic appearance for 2014. She was participating in the Portrait Gala 2014: Collecting To Inspire at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
On her back she had on a blazing blue Jenny Beckham gown that she wore before — last fall, in fact. The blue silk tulle frock was highlighted by a black velvet belt, showing that this new mother's body has snapped back to normal after giving birth to Prince George.
What wasn't normal were the jewels Kate Middleton had on around her neck. These were very special and loaned to her by her mother-in-law.
In fact, the stunning necklace, gifted the Queen upon her marriage to the Duke of Edinburgh in November 1947, has a name. It's the Nizam of Hyderabad and was created by Cartier in the 1930s for the monarch to wear on special occasions. You have probably spotted this gem on QEII before as she's seen in the stunner in many of her formal portraits. By the way, after she was given this famous bauble, QEII was said to have shortened the extravagant necklace to suit her tiny frame.
And so, as Kate Middleton sparkles in Queen Elizabeth's bling during her first public appearance for 2014, she also blushes like a new bride. Or is that just the joy of caring for her first baby that has her glowing? Only this royal mother knows for sure.
