Kate Middleton reportedly asked if she could join her grandparents-in-laws for Queen Elizabeth's return to duty today (Wednesday). Her Majesty the Queen took a nine day break from her royal duties after a brief hospital stay for a stomach bug. Today's visit to the London tube station, with Prince Philip and the Duchess of Cambridge, marked her first post-hospital trip and the 150th anniversary of London's underground Tube. The Telegraph reports Kate requested to go along to visit the historic Baker Street tube station. "She just fancied it. She asked if she could come along," a senior royal aide said of the duchess who admits she misses riding the underground train.

Prince William, who made a joint appearance with the duchess on Tuesday at the offices of Child Bereavement UK, was not on hand today. The engagement was just the third in which Kate Middleton accompanied Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh without her husband.
During the visit, the members of the royal family stepped on board the Tube's new fleet of S Stock trains. Her Majesty also officially named one Queen Elizabeth II.
