Kate Middleton and the Queen: A rough few months for the ladies of the monarch

This has been a trying several months for the most popular ladies of the monarch, as Kate's serious morning sickness bouts and the Queen's stomach infection put them out of commission for a bit. According to the Telegraph on Monday, March 11, 2013, the Queen, who is still recuperating from her stomach infection, canceled a public engagement at Westminster Abbey today.

Buckingham Palace announced today that the Queen needed to pull out of a service for the Commonwealth Nations. The Queen, who is celebrating her 87th birthday next month is “at the tall end of her illness,” but doctor's orders are for her to “pace herself.”

After canceling all her engagements last week, she was expected to carry-on with her workload this week, but she's opted for another day of rest. She still has her hand in today's event as she's expected to sign a new charter enshrining equality for women and gays in all of the states that are members.

When Kate suffered with bouts of severe morning sickness, she was forced to cancel engagements, as reported on Us Weekly back in December. Kate's pregnancy has sidelined her from some of the activities that she enjoys. She was seen walking the slopes during her recent visit to Switzerland while William and Harry skied.

When Prince Charles was called away to attend a funeral in 2011, the headlines were buzzing over his replacement, Kate Middleton, as reported in the Washington Post back then. With Kate getting along in her pregnancy, it doesn't appear as if the palace will overwhelm her with too many requests to fill-in for the royals.
