Kate Middleton and Prince William took in a showing of the Cirque du Soleil in London on Wednesday night, to celebrate her birthday. The Duchess of Cambridge turned 31 on Jan. 9, and all rumors and reports spoke of a quiet evening at home in Wales. But the royal pair pulled a surprise play on the tabloids and the paparazzi, says E! Online on Thursday, Jan. 10. They actually spent the evening at the Royal Albert Hall, watching “Kooza,” the particular Cirque du Soleil attraction now making rounds. Duchess Catherine’s parents, siblings, and several of her close friends were there.
Kate Middleton and Prince William arrived about 7:15 p.m., and they were quietly ushered into a private room – with bar. They enjoyed themselves there until the lights went down, when they slipped into the royal box. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were a bit dressed down. No tux for the prince. He was not even wearing a tie.
They paid close attention, laughing and gasping – no doubt at the terrifying trapeze acts. Kate cuddled next to Wills. It was her birthday, after all.
The group spent the intermission in the private room, also. This was no public attendance, it was a private party.
But the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did not go unnoticed by the cast of the show. At one point, a clown has his fake-royal headgear stolen, and he pointed into the crowd and shouted, “Who has my crown?” Duchess Catherine and her mom both burst out laughing, and so did Prince William.
The next time Kate Middleton and Prince William report they are planning a quiet celebration, take it with the proverbial salt. They both like a good party.
