Former reality star Kate Gosselin, who set a personal best time in the 2012 San Diego Rock 'n' Roll half-marathon on June 3, will race again in Chicago on July 22.
Gosselin will run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago mini-marathon next month as part of a promotion for her current employer, Couponcabin.com. Unlike her previous races, this one will be far more manageable distance-wise, as it'll only cover three miles.
Other reality TV stars who have run the Chicago mini-marathon include Giuliana Rancic, "Today Show" weatherman Al Roker and "Bachelor" alums Jake Pavelka and Jason Mesnick.
Kate completed her first full marathon in December 2011, running the grueling 26.2-mile Zappos Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas marathon in under five hours—an impressive time for a first-timer.
The mom of eight, who had never worked out regularly until 2006, is in the best shape of her life now, thanks to daily runs and strength-training.
When she started, Kate, 37, recalls that she couldn't run for more than five minutes at a time. She slowly built up her stamina and speed, working up to an hour daily on the treadmill, and then began running outdoors in June 2010.
While her running has made her leaner and fitter, the mom of eight enjoys it because it keeps her mentally and emotionally stable.
"I run to get away," she said. "My mind wanders and I don't know where I am or where it is but I get lost in a 'zone.' I enjoy the pain and accomplishment of running five miles up and down hills each day.
"I enjoy the fact that if I run, I see results pretty quickly. Body changes happen. and it makes me want to run again tomorrow. I enjoy the fact that my kids see me running because they want to run and be healthy, too!"
