Kate Gosselin used the r-word in an email, and now the reality star is in hot water. The r-word in question is retarded, and Kate said the word in an email to Jon Gosselin. Yes, the Jon Gosselin she barely speaks to now. The email is not recent. She sent the email to Jon back in December 2006 when he sent her an email he received from a mother's group. She called the women in the group "retarded" in the email. The Spread It reported on the email and the controversy surrounding it now on July 24.
Kate is used to being in hot water. The woman tends to say things first and take them back later. She has not spoken out about this latest scandal on her Twitter though. She is ignoring it completely. Robert Hoffman wrote about the email and several others in his book "Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World: The Rise and fall of a Reality TV Queen." The book details Kate and Jon's marriage, their television show, and events that have taken place since her divorce. Hoffman is not a fan of Kate's. Last month, he slammed her parenting skills. Kate did deny his claims then.
Kate's use of the word retarded is receiving a lot of attention. There has been a movement to ban the word completely from the dictionary. The Special Olympics even released a statement about the controversy surrounding Kate. The group said the following:
"We’re always saddened and disappointed when we hear people using the R-word. We encourage people to go to R-word.org and take the pledge. It’s important because it’s respect toward everyone."
This is not the only controversy surrounding the reality star this week though. A former nanny spoke out about how it was to work for Kate, and Kate is strict. Her strict rules for her kids are well known, but she has strict rules for her employees as well. The day ends at 9 p.m., according to this nanny. If tasks are not done at 9 p.m., they need to wait until the morning. The nanny also revealed the following, according to Wetpaint Entertainment:
"We always had to refer to the manual because it listed her pet peeves. You couldn't put anything on the ground. You had to put shoes in a certain spot. You couldn't close doors loudly. You could only vacuum during certain times of the day if she was home."
The nanny also revealed that Kate asked her to listen in on calls from Jon when he talked to the kids. The children also watched their reality show before going to bed. As far as the kids go, the nanny revealed that Kate forced her sons to pull weeds in the yard as punishment, according to The Stir. Kate and her kids were back on television last month, and Kate opened up about being a single mom to eight kids. She even revealed that she cried behind closed doors some days.
Kate remained in the media since the end of her reality series because people have kept her there. This new book is just the latest about the single mom. Earlier this year, she made news when a Today Show interview with her twin girls went terribly wrong. Does Kate Gosselin deserve all this attention? At the end of the day, she really does not. She is a single mom raising a house full of kids.
In this instance, she wrote the email back in December 2006. Retarded is not a good word to use, but it has been eight years since the email was written. It was a private email between a husband and wife. It should not be a big deal now. In ten years, no one will remember the name Gosselin.
