Kate Gosselin returns to Larry King Live
Kate Gosselin continued her media assault last night, appearing on Larry King Live. At certain points Kate seemed uncomfortable as King asked some more direct questions than the softballs lobbed at her on the Today Show.
When asked why she agreed to production of Jon and Kate Plus 8 in the first place:
"In the very beginning, we started filming a one hour special. It was a way to document what was happening in our lives... there was a lot of interest... I always pictured the little old lady that was sitting at home who was praying for us, rooting for us, needing to know what happened to those babies that were born... At the point, the one hour special was a very good experience... We really moved forward because of that reason, it was healthy, safe, and fun."
King asked Kate to comment on Jon's statement that he would rather have a "9 to 5 job than the nightmare" he's living now, she responded:
Jon's opinions and his goals are his, I know personally for myself and the kids this has been a good experience, it continues to be a good experience and, you know, really, the network has been extremely supportive above and beyond I feel what they need to be, and I only experience good things. Everyone works, everyone has a job, everyone has what they're dealing with, and generally speaking this is the most flexible, workable, wonderful job for myself -- remember, the kids are just playing in front of the cameras.
Kate says that making her private life public gives "inspiration for a lot of people," and that it's about "choosing to see the positive and working with the negative." She said the continuation of her doing the show is up to the network, to which King replied, "Why are you letting the network run you?" On the downside of fame, Kate does say she could "really live without the following," i.e., the paparazzi.
King challenged Kate on leaving out the details of her and Jon's breakup, because with the Gosselin family being so famous and choosing that fame, it disappoints the fans. Kate replied:
"My main concern is my kids, and I don't want them to see or hear anything on TV that I didn't discuss with them. And we discussed what they need to know at their developmental age group, but I don't feel I need to go into it any further at this time."
When King pressed further, trying to get Kate to clarify her statement that "Jon's activity left [her] no choice" but to file for divorce, Kate reiterated that she was not going to disclose any of that as she's remaining "positive" for the children's sake.
When asked if she "wants the show to go on and on and on," Kate said that she's happy doing the show and "as long as it goes on, it does." She refused to disclose whether or not a Season 6 was planned. When it does come to its inevitable end, Kate says she has "big dreams." Presumably those dreams don't include returning to her previous nursing profession.
Kate also admitted that she's a control freak, and reinforced her firm opinion that the show had nothing to do with the dissolution of her marriage.

Comments
Oh I definitely think the Gosselins wont be done with reality TV after TLC is done with them. I fully expect to see Kate on the new version of the Surreal life & then later on Where are they now. As for Jon I picture him doing something more like Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.
I dont know about the other kids, but I fully expect Mady to write a book that will put Christina Crawfords Mommy Dearest to shame.
While I don't agree with a lot that Kate does and says, I really can't say that I would turn down $75,000 an episode if I had a chance to make that kind of money. I would probably try to hang on to that show as long as possible too, those children are not being harmed by the TLC show, they are being harmed by their father's immature actions and the constant negative attention by the media that Jon's generating. I've got 3 kids and can't imagine what it must be like to try to support 8, especially with a soon to be ex husband that likes to run around and party and can't seem to hold a job. I am a nurse also and it is really hard for a single parent to work the hours that we have to work, Kate would pay out more for babysitters than what she makes as a nurse, most nurses don't really make as much as people think. So of course Kate has to keep the show. Jon has put up with a lot from Kate over the years, but you have to stop that right away, not wait 10 years and 8 kids later.
