The FDA announced on Tuesday that Kasel Associated Industries has issued a voluntary dog treat recall on all products made at it's Denver, Colorado facility between April 20, 2012 through September 19, 2012 due to Salmonella risks. For a list of products, go to www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm340337.htm?source=govdelivery
Products recalled include Boots & Barkley, BIXBI, Nature's Deli, Colorado Naturals, Petco and TDBBS Inc. (Best Bully Stick) items. If you have any of these treats on hand for your dog, be sure to check the lot numbers affected on the FDA spreadsheet.
These products were shipped all over the U.S. between April and September 2012. Again, this is a voluntary recall from only one Kasel facility and Kasel stated no animals have been reported being made sick.
Customers are urged to return any remaining product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Kasel Associated Industries has a hotline set up between Monday and Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. MDT at (800)218-4417.
Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include:
*lethargy
*diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
*fever
*vomiting
*decreased appetite
*abdominal pain
Some dogs may only display a decreased appetite, fever or abdominal pain and should be seen by a vet as soon as possible. If you suspect your dog has Salmonella, keep it away from other pets as it may pass on the infection to another pet or to humans.
Please pass this information to your dog loving friends so they can check their dog treats for the affected products.
