In several oriental cultures, the concept of Karma dictates the fate of one’s soul. This idea has been slowly adopted by the western culture as well, although western people perceive reincarnation and Karma as exotic, aspect which is far from what they actually represent. Given that we don’t have the appropriate cultural and religious background, understanding the true meaning of these concepts is quite difficult and we risk losing the essence of these teachings.
Approaching astrology from a Karmic point of view, we may say that life is an invaluable gift whose course isn’t a random succession of events, but rather of meant-to-be situations. Our actions dictate how our life will unfold, and through interpreting the symbols in our birth charts, we may better prepare for the experiences to come – both good and bad. Our fears, our dreams, the hardships we are confronted with, all of these things create a scheme of our life. Knowing this scheme contributes to a sense that everything has meaning, reducing angst and stress.
In other words, knowing the scheme created by our past actions helps us understand the impact and importance of our decisions, thus we conquer a new level of freedom. Freedom, in this context, means to escape the schemes which restrict us, preventing us from growing spiritually, and to become aware of our abilities and value. Being free means to take full responsibility for our actions and decisions, to push ourselves to take only those paths in life which lead to happiness, growth, and serenity.
The moment when we will acknowledge our life’s scheme and decide to break free from it isn’t marked in our natal charts. However, the latter holds the key to our understanding of the aforementioned scheme. It’s not only a map of our past actions and past lives, but it also represents everything that we have learned and inherited along the way: our inner selves shaped by our experiences, our friends and family, the environment surrounding us, our culture and country – everything which makes us feel that we belong, that our lives are meaningful.
The meaning of one’s birth chart, as interpreted through the prism of Karma, could be explained as a magnetic field which is activated at the time of our conception, structured throughout the entire gestation period, and completely fixed when are born into this world. This process can also be represented by making an analogy with a digital system: various energies are triggered by an "intelligent" memory which has stored information regarding the evolution of our souls and spirits, as determined by our past actions.
When it comes to a Karmic interpretation of the birth chart, what is truly important to observe is this testimony of our evolution throughout the entire cycle of rebirths. The connection between past, present, and future can only be understood and interpreted at a symbolical level, given that we – as human-beings – aren’t omnipotent and that we can’t fight against the force of destiny, pushing against the waves of life. However, it is at this spiritual, symbolic level that everything real and material in our lives becomes visible: if we fill our lives with meaningful things, then we will stop focusing on the material ones, thereby directing more of our energy and time towards our inner selves and our serenity.
