It's been said the camera adds ten pounds, but in the case of the topless Karlie Kloss pictures published by Numero Magazine on Tuesday, it seems the editors were trying to avoid another inconvenient bulimia outcry by airbrushing in a little meat on her bones.
Kloss is the world's number two Supermodel and, with her ballerina background, is considered to have the most graceful and distinctive gait on runways all over the world. So she makes no "bones" about her stick-thin figure.
Still, when a side-by-side comparison was published by Fashionista on Wednesday, some heavily Botoxed eyebrows were raised. It seems the airbrusher was working overtime.
This kind of controversy crops up now and then, with arguments from both sides of the floor over the anorexia issue. What kind of message is being sent?
It's all a lot of hoopla. Are fashion magazines going to start putting lady wrestlers on the cover? Aside from the scary-skinny poses in the photos, Karlie Kloss only looks like she's starving.
Having just turned 20, and always possessing the slightest of figures, she's perfectly healthy. But a cheeseburger now and then wouldn't hurt.
Usually, retouching photos smooths over the rough edges. But, in this case, it only causes controversy where none exists. Is this a shot for the number one supermodel spot?
The uncensored Karlie Kloss topless photo that started it all could turn out to be a big, fat hit.
