Karli Theberge claims third athlete of the week honor

Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com.

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

2014 spring season- Week 5- May 18th-May 24th

Female

Karli Theberge- Hermon- softball- pitched a complete game one hit shut out with seven strikeouts and no walks. faced the minimum 21 batters. also had the game winning RBI single in 3-0 victory over MDI at the University of Maine.Pitched a two hit shut out with seven strikeouts and one walk and went 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI in 19-0 victory over Caribou in the first game of the double header. Went 3-4 with a single, double, and triple and five RBI in 18-0 win over Caribou in the second game of a doubleheader. Week totals: hitting : 6-10 with 3 doubles, triple and 8 RBI, pitching: 2-0 12 IP - 14 strikeouts -1 walk -0 ER (0.17 era for season).

Theberge has earned AOW honors in back to back weeks and three times overall. She is the 11th student/athlete to be named athlete of the week at least three times. Hermon has an 11-1 record with four games remaining in the regular season.

Runner up

Courtney Richardson- PCHS- softball- Pitched a complete game and struck out three in 6-4 win over Dexter. Pitched a complete game two hitter and struck out seven in 12-0 victory over Schenck. With the bat, Richardson went 4-8 with a walk, two runs scored, and four RBI.

Other nominations

Anna Ramsay- Narraguagus - softball- Pitched a one hitter in 16-1 victory over Jonesport-Beals.

Lauren Jamo- Stearns- softball- Had two hits, three RBI, and scored four runs in 15-3 win over Bangor Christian. Had three hits and three RBI in 15-3 win over Katahdin.

Audrey Dunstan- Stearns- softball- Had two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored in 15-3 win over Bangor Christian. Had three hits and one RBI in 15-3 win over Katahdin.

Jessicca Girsa- Stearns- softball- Pitched a complete game four hitter with five strikeouts in 15-3 win over Bangor Christian. Pitched a complete game five hitter with seven strikeouts in 15-3 win over Katahdin.

Brooke Dugan-Oceanside-softball- Had three hits, including a grand slam, triple, and six RBI in 20-6 win over MCI.
