Providence College head coach Susan Robinson-Fruchtl announced on Sept. 9, that Karin Robinson has joined the team, and is eligible immediately. The 5-7 point guard spent the last two seasons at junior colleges, Coffeyville Community College (2011-12) and Monroe Community College (2012-13).
Robinson averaged 10.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.1 steals per game last year at Monroe C.C. She played in all 29 games and shot 37.2 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from beyond the arc. In May 2013, she was one of 10 players named to the WBCA Junior/Community College Coaches' All-America Team.
Robinson tallied 15 double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 23 points against Alfred State College, and dished out four assists in 16 games. She averaged 11.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.5 steals at Coffeyville C.C.
Robinson will provide Providence much needed depth at point guard and experience at the guard position overall. She is a scorer who likes to push the ball in transition, which fits the Friars well.
The Friars currently have six players who have the ability to play guard, two of those players are freshmen and one is a redshirt sophomore who will sit out this season due to the transfer rules -- Charlotte transfer Shequana Harris.
Providence returns seven players from last year’s squad went 7-23 in their first season under Robinson-Fuchtl. Leading the returnees is 5-7 junior guard Tori Rule (14.4 ppg, 3.9 rpg and 1.3 apg) and 6-1 junior forward Alexis Harris (6.1 ppg and 5.4 rpg).
The Friars also brought in five newcomers – including Robinson and Harris. The other newcomers are true freshmen Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.), Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) and Miranda Simpson (Round Rock, Texas).
Providence opens the 2013-14 regular-season schedule against UMass Lowell on November 8 in Lowell, Mass.
