Actress Karin Anna Cheung ("The People I've Slept With" and "Better Luck Tomorrow") emceed the recent 2011 Miss L.A. Chinatown Fashion Show.
Karin recently answered a few questions for Examiner.com:
How did you get involved with emceeing the 2011 Miss Chinatown Fashion Show?
I was attending CAPE's (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) annual Holiday Soiree and bumped into the lovely ladies of this year's court. When they asked if I would host, I said yes right away. It's a treat to host an event like this, and an honor to support Miss Chinatown, Reading to Kids, and talented Asian American designers. The more we support each other, the more opportunities we create for our community. I highly recommend everyone to take a look at the designers featured: CC Couture (www.cc-couture.com), Sue Wong (www.suewong.com), Mae by Mae Ho, Jellypop Shoes (www.jellypopshoes.com), and Nice Guys Design by the Wong Fu guys(www.areyouaniceguy.com), part of their proceeds go towards charity!).
Tell us about your own previous experiences with modeling or fashion design?
I've modeled professionally for Diesel and Melting Pot Jeans campaigns, and walk the runway a few times as a celebrity model for Audrey Magazine's (www.audreymagazine.com) fashion show and friends' lines. On the red carpet and at events I've worn Stella & Jamie (www.stellaandjamie.com), Traci Moyo Jewelry (she’s made special pieces just to match my outfits), Sue Wong, CC Couture, Grace Sun (www.gracesundesign.com), Tadashi (www.tadashicollection.com), Three Dots (www.threedots.com), and a few other lines. I’ve been real lucky to have my hair and makeup done in the past by Akiko Matsumoto (www.akikoface.com), Dwayne Ross of Verve Lounge (www.vervelounge.com), Rodante of Beverly Hills, Nicole Morihiro, and Joyce Luck to name a few. This past year I've had the pleasure of working with stylist David Tran (wix.com/davidhtran/stylist), who is also a fellow actor. Sometimes I make my own leather and semi-precious jewelry to wear at events, on the red carpet, and in film projects. If you watch closely in "The People I've Slept With", I wear a lot of Stella & Jamie and a few of my own jewelry designs.
What can you tell us about this year's charitable cause Reading to Kids?
It's such a great organization (www.readingtokids.org). They help kids and adults learn to read. I've just recently became familiar with them because of the fashion show and I'm looking forward to learning more and possibly being involved with them in the future.
What's your next project?
We're awaiting the dvd release for my newest film, "The People I've Slept With" (www.thepeopleivesleptwith.com), which will be available for sale on March 22nd. You can pre-order it right now at Amazon and all other major distributors . Quentin Lee (director) and I are planning on brewing up something new soon. Hopefully it won’t take three years this time.
Special Thanks to Karin Anna Cheung for this interview.
