"Project Linus" came about Christmas Even 1995 when Karen read an article titled "Joy to the World" in Parade magaine by Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist, Eddie Adams. The article featured a child that was going through intensive chemotherapy who talked about how much her security blanket helped her get through the ordeal. After reading that article Karen Loucks decided to provide homemade security blankets to Denver's Rocky Moutnain Children's Cancer Center and Project Linus was born. The young recipients of the "linus" blankets now include children who suffer from child abuse, natural disasters and war.
