Sunday night's episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians had about 1.7 million viewers. This compares to the 4.1 million who tuned in to watch Kim's wedding and 30 second marriage to Kris Humphries. Just to give a comparison of how more universally popular shows measure up- the series finale of Breaking Bad had 10 million viewers.
Why the sudden drop in popularity for our favorite reality TV stars? Lamar Odom's drug problems could have something to do with it. The last few episodes have seen a huge dip in ratings compared to the pre-drug scandal. Also, this season, Kim, whose sex tape is the foundation to the family's popularity, is getting much less airtime with her pregnancy and anti- press sweetheart Kanye West. While the Kardashians signed a contract to keep their dynasty going until 2015, the network may pull the plug sooner rather than later.
Maybe the age of reality television is coming to an end. Or maybe the world just needs some new stars to obsess over. Whatever the case, viewers are no longer "keeping up." It could be time for the family to host Saturday Night Live together. It seems viewers love nothing more than rich people making fools of themselves!
