The Kardashian curse has to do with the men that the Kardashian women date. Most of the men that come in to their lives end up becoming less popular to the general public. On Jan. 2, Huffington Post reported that Kim's exes, Reggie Bush and Kris Humphries, along with Khloe's husband, Lamar Odom, have all had a decline in popularity. So the question is, will Kanye West be in the same (sinking) boat?
"You need to do well, and you also need to date someone who people like. The Kardashians are controversial. They have really negatively impacted the marketability of [Odom, Bush and Humphries]," explained Stephen Master (SVP of Sports for Nielsen).
The Kardashian curse has affected athletes thus far -- and Kanye West isn't an athlete; he's a rapper. One has to keep in mind that the men that the Kardashian's date have not been huge superstars to begin with. It's not like the girls are crashing Tom Brady-like empires. Some might even say that some of the men that the girls date have become more popular. Like Lamar Odom. Plenty of people know him from the E! reality shows and they like him... but that doesn't mean that they are tuning in to Clippers games to watch him play.
As for the other two men in the Kardashian family -- Bruce Jenner and Scott Disick -- people seem to have split feelings about them. People either love or hate Disick and most people feel really bad for Bruce (the guy puts up with a lot). Do you think Kim and Khloe are "destroying" the reputations of their guys?
Will the Kardashian curse have any impact on Kanye? It's really a double-edged sword. Some people really like West and others really don't like him. He's already controversial as it is, so dating a Kardashian -- and getting one pregnant -- could go either way in regard to his popularity.
