Barn Burner, a beer brewed in the saison tradition, returns to stores this week as Karbach’s spring seasonal release. Fans will likely remember this beer when it was introduced last year. It was the first canned seasonal release from Karbach and now it is back, as part of the normal, seasonal rotation.
For those less familiar, saison beer has its origins in Belgium and was originally brewed to quench the thirsts of farmhands working in the fields, hence the common nickname Farmhouse ale for this style. Because it is intended as a warmer weather refresher, saison style beer is usually a little lighter in body and has a fruity and sometimes yeasty/spicy character.
Karbach Barn Burner Saison is brewed with locally grown ruby red grapefruit for a distinct flavor unlike the typical saison brew. Look for it starting this week in six packs and on draft. It will remain on the market until Love Street summer beer replaces it in a few months.
