Karaoke notes: December 2011

It’s hard to believe 2011 is almost one for the record books.  In the spirit of tying up loose ends and getting ready to belt out “Baby, it’s Cold Outside”, here’s some random notes for the Cincinnati scene.

Contests

The Metromix Idol 2011 contest wrapped up in March at the now defunct Bagpipes Irish Pub in downtown.  First place went to Leah Johnson, second to Ellis (must be a relative of Sting) and third place to Barbie Robbins.

The Hollywood Casino Karaoke Showdown contest is yet to be decided.  Finals will be held in the Hollywood on the Roof lounge on Thursday, December 15 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Keeping that perfect pitch

In a previous article, we explored some of the aspects of vocal range and how it affects our performance as karaoke singers.  Here’s a link to an interesting online site called The Range Place that compares the range of a boatload of popular singers in their index.  It’s a good place to do some compare and contrast and pick up some clues to a wider range of song selections that may fall well within your vocal range.
