Karaoke haters

There is at least one person at every karaoke show who hates karaoke. It might be a worker at the establishment, or a customer who wasn’t expecting karaoke. It might be a musician from a local band who would rather have his group performing at this bar or restaurant. If the karaoke hater can leave, they often do so as soon as possible, but if they’re a server, bartender or manager, they have no choice but to stay for the show.

Some people say they hate karaoke because the singers are terrible, but if this were true, people wouldn’t watch the auditions for American Idol where the majority of contestants fail to make it to the show. For many viewers, watching people fail is more fun than watching them succeed.

People who hate karaoke are often capable of singing but, are not interested in demonstrating their talent or lack the confidence to perform. They seem to have above average knowledge of pitch and are quick to ridicule singers who can’t hit the high notes.

Many musicians resent karaoke singers simply because they feel the singers have not paid their dues by rehearsing hour after hour to perfect their skills, and have not gone to the expense of buying equipment with which to perform. They are not criticizing the talent of the performers but rather the lack of work involved to be able to perform.

The number one complaint against karaoke singers made by owners and managers is that karaoke singers don’t spend money to support the cost of the shows.

While there are karaoke singers who fit the descriptions the haters portray, many of today’s karaoke singers work hard to learn songs, rehearse at home on a regular basis, and come to shows with their friends who all spend freely to support the show. Without karaoke many very talented singers might never be heard.

Karaoke is not a perfect form of entertainment; however it can be fun for almost everyone in one way or another, except for the true karaoke hater.
