Karamu Performing Arts Theatre to hold auditions for youth theatre production

Karamu Performing Arts Theatre has announced that it will be holding auditions for the youth theatre production of “The Consistency of Smoke” by Michael Oatman. The production will be directed by Ray Allmond. The auditions are scheduled for Monday, August 18 and Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. each day and will be held at Karamu House that is located at 2355 East 89th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44106.

Those auditioning are asked to prepare two contrasting monologues lasting no more than two minutes each. They will also be asked to do a cold reading from the script. A headshot and resume will also collected at the time of the audition as well as a list of any conflicts with rehearsals. Conflicts made after casting may result in re-casting. The performance dates are October 4 through 12, 2014.

About the Play

After a rash of hate crimes, a newly declared homosexual teenager tries to start up a support group for gay teens in her high school. This searing drama tackles issues rarely touched onstage in the world of teenagers.

Consists of a 6 week rehearsal schedule, 3-6 times per week. The cast will receive a rehearsal schedule by the first cast meeting or first rehearsal.
