Kanye West appeared on Big Boy’s Neighborhood on Power 106 in Los Angeles on Monday where he talked about his view on designing for luxury brands. According to TMZ on Oct. 28, the rapper, who previously designed a sneaker collection for Louis Vuitton, revealed he would not work with the brand again.
In the interview, Kanye explained that he did not want to send a message to children to “save up” money for the sake of purchasing a luxury item. He added that the brand's pricing is far too “extreme” and that young consumers are buying into the marketing messages of luxury brands for the wrong reasons.
Kanye’s sneakers for Louis Vuitton retailed at more than $800 in 2009, according to the website. But he admits he no longer endorses that type of brand messaging.
The rapper/designer also opened up about music, his troubles with the paparazzi and his relationship with wife-to-be Kim Kardashian. Kanye said he wants to use his talent and fame for good and wants to be a better man, friend and person.
Kanye says the "world can be saved by design" as well as be saved by people caring for each other.
