Kanye West was paid $3 million to sing for the president of Kazakhstan at a wedding. TMZ reports on Sept. 1 that West performed at the Hotel Royal Tulip for the president’s grandson. A video of one his songs has surfaced online.
Kanye West earned a $3 million paycheck by performing for Nursultan Nazarbayev who hired him to sing at his grandson’s wedding. The private concert at the Hotel Royal Tulip included multiple songs from Kanye. A video of him singing “Can't Tell Me Nothing” has been posted online. In addition, multiple photographs of West on stage are showing up on Twitter and Instagram.
In one of the photos, Kanye West poses with a fan in Kazakhstan but forgets to smile. Other images show him arriving at the hotel and singing on stage. Fans photobombed some of the pictures, but Kanye seemed too focused on his music to notice.
President Nursultan Nazarbayev is allegedly worth billions and has been accused of corruption in Kazakhstan in the past. Some of the accusations include claims that Nazarbayev has moved the oil profits into private accounts.
Although Kanye West may have been thinking about paying for North West’s diapers and Kim Kardashian’s expanding wardrobe, his performance is considered controversial. He is facing criticism similar to the backlash Jennifer Lopez received after singing in Turkmenistan for president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Kanye West may want to borrow her representatives’ comments because they claimed Lopez was not aware of any corruption or human rights issues in the country.
