Kanye West compares himself to Nelson Mandela

If you’ve been on Twitter or follow Kanye West at all, you’ve undoubtedly heard the comments that Kanye West supposedly said during an interview with WGCI radio in Chicago printed up on the The Daily Currant. It stirred up many angry commentators.

Kanye, who already has a bad reputation already, allegedly stated, "I am the next Nelson Mandela. I'm only 36 years old, and when I look at everything I've accomplished, it's the only comparison that makes any sense. By the time I'm 95, I'm going to be a bigger hero than he ever was.

"Nelson Mandela did a lot of good work, don't get me wrong. But I think I'm on track to do something even bigger. I liberate minds with my music. That's more important than liberating a few people from apartheid or whatever.”

During the interview, host Adrian Cronauter, pressed Kanye about what he has done for the civil rights movement. What campaigns or political activities has he involved himself in. Kanye answered that he’s endured racism as he was the first black rapper to make a name for himself and that no one can recall anyone else before he arrived on the scene.

Kanye responses were slanderous. He continued to say that he believes the South African country has around six people where as he, Kanye, started in the US, attaining global fame and recognition, and people around the world worship him.

E! and The Daily News ran a story to put the few fans that Kanye has left, at ease. The Daily Current is a satirical website. They went viral on Facebook with his so-called statements. At the bottom of their page, in amongst the uncomplimentary comments over Kanye, they have a disclaimer that reads, “Our stories are purely fictional.”

If it is fictional, the disclaimer should headline their site. Too many people do not know that The Daily Current is a satire site. Given Kanye's reputation, it was too easy to believe that the statements were true.
