For those who missed it the big story tonight at the VMAs was Kanye West stealing Taylor Swift's moment when she was awarded the best female video.

After "You Belong with Me" beat out the five other nominations in the category including "Single Ladies" by Beyonce, Swift went on stage to give her acceptance speech.

However, her speech was cut short when West came on stage, took her microphone and declared "I'm sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time." A stunned Swift remained on stage as the audience booed and MTV cut to a prerecorded segment by comedian Tracy Morgan.

Swift did get her time moment later in the evening. When Beyonce was awarded video of the year she brought Swift back on stage after saying "I remember being 17-years-old up for my first MTV Award with Destiny's Child and it was one of the most exciting moments in my life so I'd like for Taylor to come out and have her moment."

West, who has a history of such outbursts at previous VMAs,  was asked to leave the awards shortly after his outburst.
