Could Kanye West fall victim to the "Kardashian curse" which former beaus of Kim K fell to? The super-successful hip hop star may want to study up on several athletes linked to the Kardashian sisters, such as Reggie Bush, Kris Humphries and Lamar Odom.
Website The Inquisitr reported on Jan. 3 that Stephen Masters, the VP of Nielsen Sports, says that those aforementioned athletes may have gained more visibility for being with a Kardashian, but ultimately their popularity was hurt overall. It may also have hurt them in their career performances on the basketball court, or football field, as they have seemingly faded in terms of All-star or MVP-type performances. That's not to say they still can't achieve success, but being linked to the Kardashians may have had something to do with where they're at right now.
Masters told Huffington Post regarding what happens to famous athletes who dated or married a Kardashian:
"Between Lamar Odom, Reggie Bush and Kris Humphries, those guys have all had their N-Score hurt, and it isn’t because of their awareness. Their awareness has actually shot up, in every case, but their negative appeal has also shot up. You need to do well, and you also need to date someone who people like. The Kardashians are controversial. They have really negatively impacted the marketability of [Odom, Bush and Humphries]."
The "N-Score" is basically an algorithm which helps to determine how popular an athlete is. In the case of the three individuals mentioned above, they all appeared on Kim or Khloe's reality shows. Reggie Bush had the least appearances of the three, but still was hurt overall. Reflecting back on the careers of all three athletes, none of these three guys linked to a Kardashian are doing exceptionally well in either the NBA or NFL at this point. In fact, it can be argued that their sports performance may have suffered from the Kardashian relationship.
Kanye's no stranger to controversy and many individuals may already have a negative image of him before his association with Kim Kardashian. Some of his diehard fans may change their tune now, and join that club. However, Kanye West is in a completely different field, working with music, rather than sports. He's yet to win that Grammy award for Album of the Year, but has been nominated numerous times. The "Kardashian curse" just may strike and see Kanye fall in terms of those nominations, or it may not hurt him one bit. It may even propel him to a new level.
With Kanye West planning to appear on a reality show during Kim's pregnancy, will it hurt or help the rap star's career?
