Kansas Jayhawk Basketball punishes Texas Longhorns winning 85-54

Maybe the Topeka YMCA would have given KU a better game than Texas last night, February 22, 2013, but they would have came away with a loss just the same. If you blinked in the opening minutes of the game, you would have missed the short time Texas thought they had a chance. In the first 5 minutes, the Longhorns mounted an 8-3 lead, but Kansas quickly put an end to that with a 25-2 run. They closed out the game with a resounding 85-54 win and avenging a loss in Austin a few weeks before.

KU’s Andrew Wiggins lead all scorers with 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and tallied a pair of blocks. Rookie center Joel Embiid finished the night with the Jayhawks' all-time freshman blocks record, surpassing Eric Chenowith's previous record of 62. Wayne Selden, Jr., dished out a career-high seven assists and tied his personal-best with six rebounds, while Frank Mason hit a career-high six shots on his way to 14 points.

The Jayhawks held Texas to 18 points in the first half and never let up until the final buzzer sounded. It’s definitely a game the fans and surely Bill Self was looking for after a lackluster game against Texas Tech last Monday where they needed a Wiggins put-back with 2 seconds left to take the lead and the win. Kansas has been playing their best basketball in this Big 12 conference play, and sometimes not their best. Hopefully with a handful of games remaining, the Jayhawks can find more consistency like the Texas performance and string together a run in March.
