Kansas Substate predictions/ Mariah Suchan(Maize South) blocking a shot
Wendy Homan

My predictions for the 5A substate brackets for the local region.

Here are the brackets link:

On the boys side of things the local Goddard Eisenhower region has Hays as the #1 seed and Eisenhower as the #2 seed. I look for both these two teams to move on to state but not without a fight especially for Eisenhower who looks to have to get by a potential third meeting with Maize South. Maize South has played Eisenhower very tough the first two times. I see this matchup as a potential upset bid for Maize South.
In the other Newton region, Wichita Heights has the #1 seed and Andover has the #2 seed. Look for these teams to move onto state. Kapuun potentially could give Heights fits in a possible #1 verse #4 matchup thought. And #3 Salina Central could upset Andover in the other matchup to go to state.
On the girls’ side, the Goddard Eisenhower region has Great Bend as the #1 seed. Great Bend has some veteran experience and looks to advance. The #4 verse #5 matchup has Liberal playing Maize South. I look for a possible substate rematch between Great Bend and Maize South. Eisenhower, the #3 lost to Goddard, the #6 seed, in the last game of the regular season and thus lost the #2 seed to Bishop Carroll and will have to beat Goddard again and avoid a big potential upset in substate.
In the Newton region, #1 Salina Central has a real good opportunity to move onto state. A potential Salina Central verses #4 Newton could be a good game but Salina Central is programmed to win state this season with the most experience of any team this year. Kapaun will likely play Andover in the #2 verses #3 matchup. Both teams have a lot of veteran experience. I’ll go with Andover going back to state.
And my predictions for 6A and 5A State Champs:
6A boys- Wichita East
6A girls- Wichita South
5A boys –Hays
5A girls- Salina Central
