According to the Huffington Post, pro-life supporters are rejoicing in Kansas over what they see as a significant move to protect the lives of unborn human beings. New legislation, HB 2253, was sent to Kansas Governor Sam Brownback last night (April 5, 2013) to be signed into law. The bill recognizes that life begins at the moment of fertilization and prohibits state funding for all abortion services. It also prohibits women from claiming abortion expenses on their state income tax returns.
The bill would:
- Eliminate "damage to a woman's mental health" as justification for mid to late term abortions.
- Prevents employees and volunteers from pro-abortion organizations such as Planned Parenthood from distributing any information on human sexuality to children in state supported schools.
- Requires abortion clinics to provide information about anti-abortion alternatives for pregnant women.
- Requires abortion clinics to provide detailed information on gestational development to their patients.
- Include a provision requiring abortion clinics to inform women seeking an abortion of the link between abortion and breast cancer.
Supporters of HB2253 see its principal objective as protecting abortion opponents from inadvertently providing support, even indirect support, for abortion via their tax dollars.
