With a lineup of The Wizard of Oz (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production), We Will Rock You, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Sound of Music and Blue Man Group, Starlight Theatre’s 2014 Broadway lineup offers five family friendly productions for the summer.
According to Starlight Theatre, the 64th consecutive Starlight season offers an unforgettable blend of classic Broadway favorites and new contemporary shows, along with the ultra modern Blue Man Group.
“Each year, Starlight attempts to offer the region a season of musical productions that are as diverse as our audiences, and I think the 2014 Broadway season definitely fits that bill,” Donna Thomason, interim president of Starlight, said. “In Starlight’s Annual Show survey, all five shows in the upcoming Broadway series appeared in the Top 10 List of productions that patrons have asked to see at Starlight.”
WIZARD OF OZ- June 10-15, 2014
Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice joined forces once again to recraft the classic MGM movie The Wizard of Oz, insert new songs, and add a few surprises. This new production of The Wizard of Oz is an adaptation of the all-time classic, totally reconceived for the stage. Developed from the ever-popular MGM screenplay, the new production contains all the songs from the Oscar® winning movie score, all the favorite characters and iconic moments, plus a few surprises along the way. Join with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Glinda, and the Wicked Witch of the West on a trip to the Emerald City, to meet the Wizard from Kansas. But, be warned, the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys have not been left out of the production. See if Dorothy, and her little dog, Toto, make it back to Kansas with their heart’s desire.

Once again in 2014, it’s the music of Andrew Lloyd Weber and his first major career building show, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The production follows the story of Joseph in the Book of Genesis and the story has become a family favorite because of the story of victory over adversity, forgiveness, and the inspiring music of Weber. Is the irresistible family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel’s favorite son. Joseph marks the first collaboration of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera, Cats) and Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King), Joseph blends pop, country and rock into an uplifting, technicolor ed story of biblical proportions. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will feature Broadway and television star Diana DeGarmo (Hairspray, Hair) as The Narrator and Broadway Star Ace Young (Grease, Hair) as Joseph. Undoubtedly, the one musical that the team of Rodgers and Hammerstein will be remembered for is their final collaboration, The Sound of Music. Two Broadway legendary performers played Maria on stage and screen, Mary Martin on stage and Julie Andrews on screen. The Sound of Music follows the story of the Von Trapp family in Austria during the Nazi occupation. Everyone knows the story, but the show continues to draw crowds to hear the familiar songs and relive the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein tandem finale. Audiences know well the title song, as well as such other songs as "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Climb Ev’ry Mountain," and "Edelweiss."
