Kansas City dogs: Heart of America dog shows begin Thursday

The Heart of America Cluster moves to Bartle Hall this year for four days of canine competition.

The cluster begins this Thursday at the downtown venue (301 W. 13th St.). The Leavenworth Kennel Club hosts the Thursday and Friday all-breed shows. The Heart of America Kennel Club hosts the remaining two all-breed shows on Saturday and Sunday. All four shows include Junior Showmanship competition.

Breed judging begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday. Group judging begins at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday and Saturday, and 1:45 p.m. on Friday and Sunday.

In addition, the following breed clubs will host specialties or matches and/or support entries during the cluster.

Among the local judges at this year’s cluster are Wayne Brower (Pleasant Hill), Patrick Byrne (KCK), Fatima Crump (Lansing) and Doris J. Honey-Pippin (KCK).

You can find out when your favorite breeds and variety groups are competing by reviewing the judging program. Be prepared to pay for parking if you wish to park near the venue. Only dogs entered in the shows will be allowed in Bartle Hall. Strollers should be left at home.
