Here’s a list of dog-related events happening this weekend in the Kansas City metro.
Thursday, April 25 through Saturday, April 27
Furry Kids’ Refuge is having a rummage sale at 1035 S. 7 Highway. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. all three days.
Saturday, April 27
The Applebee’s restaurant at 1501 N.E. Douglas in Lee’s Summit will host Pancakes for Puppies from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. For a $7 ticket, you get three pancakes, some sausage and a drink. Proceeds benefit Chain of Hope.
The Kansas City Corgi Meetup starts at 1 p.m. at Liberty Dog Park (901 S. La Frenz, Liberty).
Barks in the Park is from 1 to 5 p.m. at Ironwoods Park (147th St. and Mission Road, Leawood). The event is free, with no registration required. A dog costume contest begins at 3 p.m. Other activities include microchipping and demonstrations. Pet-related vendors, adoptable animals and a fenced, off-leash area will be on site. The Leawood Animal Control Division and the Leawood Parks & Recreation Department are hosting this event.
Local artists will have artwork available during the Picassos for Pets silent auction. The event, a benefit for HELP Humane Society, is from 2 to 5 p.m. at Grandview Assembly of God (12400 Grandview Road, Grandview). Sunday, April 28
The Prairie Paws Animal Shelter Dog Walk/Run will be at Forest Park (405 N. Locust St., Ottawa). Registration is from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the shelter (3173 Highway K-68, Ottawa), with the walk at the park beginning at 2 p.m. You can also register online. If you’d like to walk a shelter dog in the event, call the shelter ahead of time at 785-242-2967. The person collecting the most pledge money wins a Toshiba video recorder. Contests will also be held during the afternoon.
