Kanlaya a Thai Restaurant in Chinatown, among the many restaurants in Chinatown, it is definitely a good pick. Kanlaya opened in May 2004 and was the first of its kind to open up, now you can see Thai cuisine available every other restaurant. It is delicious. The dinner menu has more than enough options, maybe too many to choose from, making the choice of an entrée kind of hard. But other than that I really don’t have any other complaints. The waitress was polite and greeted me within 3 minutes of being seated and soon as you approach the door someone is there to seat you.
Food service is quick, the dress code is casual, and while you are waiting you can enjoy a nice quiet dining room. It is a perfect location for taking someone out on a date and reasonably priced as well. The dining room is dimly lit and there is a candle on every table, it allows for privacy, even if someone is sitting next to you. Entrees are about 10-17 dollars, which isn’t bad. And drinks aren’t that expensive either, most are about 6-7 dollars. While it is not a very expensive place to eat, it is still nice and enjoyable. The environment is calm and cool and the cuisine is delicious and pretty healthy.
The food has no MSG in it and the menu even includes a vegetarian option. The Kee Mao, number 40 on the menu, was delicious and could be made in American or Thai style. But if you ask me if you come to a Thai restaurant you should eat Thai, not American style. The thing I loved about it most was that it was full of vegetables; it had tomatoes, onions, red bell peppers, and lettuce. It is made out of sticky rice noodles and your choice of meat (chicken, beef, pork, or seafood). Seasoned with basil leaves, garlic, and chili, this entrée is spicy, but not too hot. If you haven’t been, then you must go, and enjoy some Thai Cuisine.
